Task Analysis
The current product
This device monitors fetal heart rate and the mother’s uterine contractions during labor.
Apply ultrasound gel to the transducer. Move the transducer around the abdomen until the baby’s heartbeat is clearly detected
Position the ultrasound transducer over the best spot for picking up fetal heart tones.
Wrap elastic straps around the mother’s abdomen. Plug the sensors into the fetal monitor machine.
Repeat steps for next transducer that measures uterine contractions.

Explored wireless, strapless solutions
Intuitive Procedure
Body conforming sensor strips that the patient can take on and off, and are stored on a monitor device when not in use, and are charged wirelessly.
Form Exploration
Four wireless charging spots; two transducer strips on deck charging, while two are in use. The monitor displays fetal heart rate trace and toco trace, as well as the battery life of the strips.
